A Merger Long Time Coming: American Heart Certification Courses at College of Marin

This year makred a merger between Marin County Fire Department and College of Marin to host CPR certification courses for its healthcare students

The college is now an officially recognized Training Site for CPR, enabling our student body to become certified as BLS Providers through the American Heart Association. This certification is essential for all healthcare professionals and remains valid for two years.

Every two years, students—including nurses, doctors, medical assistants, and firefighters—will seek recertification through the college. This presents a guaranteed opportunity for student enrollment and addresses a significant gap for a training site in Marin County.

To date, four Fire Technology students have been certified as BLS Providers, enabling them to pursue gainful employment immediately after passing the NREMT exam.

A Course Outline for an autonomous course (FIRE 101) will facilitate CPR training for all students in Career Education, as well as for fire departments and EMS agencies interested in receiving training from the College of Marin.
