Creating a Brand
In December, COM’s Curriculum Committee ratified two Certificates of Achievement for Fire Technology students to be recognized by the State Chancellor’s Office. Students who will, or have completed in the last two years, both EMR and EMT-1 receive COA-I, demonstrating 10 Semester Units toward their career specialty. Once they complete all Fire Tech courses, including Intro to Fire and Firefighter Physical Fitness, students receive an additional Certificate, indicating they are trained to the level of an EMT-1 and able to attend college fire academies or begin work as ambulance EMTs ER Techs, or Firefighter EMTs for statewide fire departments.
These certificates not only shine a light on our graduates when they apply for EMS and fire careers, helping them to stand out from the multitude of other qualified applicants, but they also shine a light on the College’s Program as a beacon for future students to attain an education, while being a part of something significant.
